ANTHROPOLOGY of MOTHERHOOD
FEEDING ROOM

Anthropology of Motherhood: Feeding Room is celebrating its seventh year as part of the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Festival. AoM is an exhibition featuring works of art that engage in the complex visual, material, emotional, corporeal, and lived experiences of motherhood, caregiving, parenting, nurturing, and maternal labor. This unique hybrid exhibition is innovatively designed as both an art space, an interactive amenity, and a place of respite for families with young children.

This year, AoM is proud to collaborate with WHAMglobal in Birthing a Movement featuring artist Lena Chen and her project Full Circle. Full Circle is a participatory art project that engages communities of birth workers in sharing stories about their labor experiences. Full Circle will be taking place with birth workers on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th and with AoM volunteers from June 6-12. Lena’s work will be accompanied with six commissioned portraits of birth workers from the WHAMglobal community.

“WHAMglobal is excited to bring the Birthing A Movement experience back into the community through this years’ exhibit. We were thrilled to learn about Anthropology of Motherhood’s powerful work to use art to visualize and discuss the culture of care. We are more than delighted to have this partnership to amplify the voices of the maternity care workforce in our community, and we hope it will help more Pittsburghers understand the critical role maternity care plays in supporting our communities.”

— Hanifa Nakiryowa, MA, MID, program associate at WHAMglobal
and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation

Anthropology of Motherhood hosts the
Woodlands Foundation

The Woodlands Art Here is a groundbreaking exhibit featuring the artists of The Woodlands. Using disabled artists as role models, our artists developed their own style and application of the works of Judith Scott, Helen Rae, and Victoria Dugger. Curated by Fran Flaherty, Sallyann Kluz (Office of Public Art), and Ruth Fabby (Disability Arts Cymru, UK).

The Woodlands, located in Wexford, serves thousands of people annually and partners with agencies and organizations to host camps, retreats and other programming for individuals with disabilities and chronic illness.
